The higher education system in Ireland is broad in scope and encompasses the university sector, the technological sector, the colleges of education and private, independent colleges. The institutions which fall within the first three groupings are autonomous and self governing, but substantially state funded.
Only students attending a full time course of at least one year's duration are entitled to take up part-time employment (defined as up to 20 hours part time work per week or full time work during college vacation periods). This was done just to ensure that a student does not misses his/her studies.
The main costs that students can expect to incur while studying in Ireland include tuition fees, accommodation and living expenses. These vary considerably depending on the course, the institution and the lifestyle of the student.
